Good to know: the switch to Tardoc and outpatient lump sums
From 1 January 2026, the Swiss healthcare system will have a new tariff structure in place for outpatient medical benefits. Tardoc and outpatient lump sums will replace the outdated Tarmed billing system. Not much is changing for insurance customers – except for the claim receipt.
Why is the tariff system being changed?
The new outpatient tariff system (which consists of the Tardoc single-service tariff and outpatient lump sums) has significant advantages over Tarmed. Under the old structure, tariff items could only be adjusted by means of a very convoluted process. As a result, gains in efficiency from advances in medicine did not make treatments any cheaper. The new system brings tariffs up to date. It also increases transparency and provides for regular reviews and adaptations, so that future innovations will benefit everyone. What will change for SWICA customers?
As a SWICA customer, very little will change for you. Your excess and co-payment will not be affected by the switch. The changeover will only be noticeable on the claim receipt that you receive from service providers.Quicker submission of claim receipts thanks to QR codes
The claim receipt will now include an additional sheet with QR codes, which will allow all data to be read quickly and digitally. The easiest way to do this is to scan the codes using the mySWICA app. This is what the new claim receipt document looks like
- The individual tariff items are shown on the first pages, as was previously the case.
- The last page consists of a sheet of QR codes, which is best to scanned with the mySWICA app together with the claim receipt in order to submit the receipt quickly and easily.
As a SWICA customer, there will be no real change in the billing process as a result of the switch in tariff systems. In cases where the invoice is sent to you with the claim receipt, we ask that you submit the QR sheet together with the claim receipt to SWICA after making payment.
