FAQ regarding accident insurance

Accident insurance is compulsory by law. If you work at least eight hours per week for the same employer, your employer must take out insurance to cover you against the financial consequences of occupational and non-occupational accidents. If you are not employed, you are covered by the accident insurance element of mandatory healthcare insurance under the KVG.

It may also be advisable to take out more comprehensive cover. SWICA’s INFORTUNA medical expenses plan offers accident insurance with comprehensive cover. You benefit from full cover for the costs of outpatient and inpatient treatment worldwide. You are also entitled to a single room and a free choice of doctor and hospital. SWICA also offers you other generous benefits in areas such as complementary medicine, emergency transport and rescue operations.

The cost of compulsory accident insurance depends on whether you are insured through your health insurance or your employer. For optimal protection with additional benefits we recommend the outstanding INFORTUNA accident insurance, which covers the full costs of treatment anywhere in the world. Please note that you may only remove the cover from your mandatory basic insurance if you work at least eight hours per week for your employer, as you are then insured through your employer against the consequences of an accident.
