Pregnancy and maternity
Rahel's first pregnancy
It's not exactly unplanned. Nevertheless, Rahel is over the moon when her pregnancy test turns out to be positive.
An initial appointment with a gynaecologist is arranged for a few weeks later and she confirms that Rahel is indeed pregnant. She talks through the next steps with Rahel and gives her some relevant material to read. As soon as Rahel gets home, she takes time to read everything through.
Properly insured?
Rahel wonders what benefits her health insurance covers when it comes to check-ups and birth preparation. She decides to call SWICA's customer service desk. The advisor tells her about the benefits that are available for birth preparation, support and aftercare under basic insurance and which benefits are covered by SWICA's supplementary insurance plans. She also explains to Rahel how important it is to register the baby with SWICA before the birth. In this way, parents enjoy the best benefits for their baby in the event of unexpected events during and after the birth.
Rahel is glad that she has done everything right with regard to the COMPLETA TOP and COMPLETA PRAEVENTA supplementary insurance plans, especially in terms of preparatory courses and alternative therapy methods.

Benefits before and after birth
But even after the birth, Rahel and her baby can access numerous services including baby massage, baby swimming, postnatal exercises, pelvic floor exercises and three breastfeeding consultations. Rahel is also rewarded for breastfeeding her baby for a prolonged period. Rahel can contact santé24 if she has any questions about children’s vaccinations. She can also make an appointment to see a paediatrician for a free consultation.
Antenatal benefits
SWICA supports you through courses and preventive check-ups prior to the birth.
Postnatal benefits
SWICA also supports you after the birth through courses and services which aim to ensure that mother and child continue to thrive.
Did you know that?
Breastfeeding brings numerous health benefits and intensifies the bond between mother and child. Studies have shown that breast milk contains all the nutrients that babies need in the first four to six months. In addition, breast milk strengthens the immune system and reduces the risk of a range of illnesses – for both the child and the mother. Under the COMPLETA TOP supplementary insurance plan SWICA pays out CHF 200.– if breastfeeding is sustained for at least 10 weeks.
Whether it's heavy legs or stomach pains, santé24 is there for you 24 hours a day
One Sunday, Rahel becomes anxious about a slight pain in her abdomen. So she calls the santé24 telemedicine service. The medical health adviser asks Rahel detailed questions about the symptoms and arranges for a doctor to call her back. The callback comes through a short time later. The santé24 doctor asks Rahel more specific questions. It turns out that the symptoms indicate a simple stomach upset, which means that Rahel can relax. The doctor recommends a herbal medicine that is safe for Rahel to take during pregnancy and arranges to call back to see how the symptoms develop. The next day Rahel is back to normal. Rahel can use the herbal remedy again during the pregnancy if she has an upset stomach.
A few days before the baby is due to be born, Rahel goes into labour and alerts the hospital. Finally the time has come, and after a few hours her son comes into the world.

Medical advice and reference book – find the information you need quickly and reliably with BENECURA
The top priority for Rahel and her husband is their son’s safety. Their son becomes fretful and develops a temperature when his first tooth begins to come through. Rahel remembers the SymptomCheck feature in the BENECURA app. She quickly gets out her smartphone and opens the app. However, since children's symptoms can be hard to specify and their condition can change rapidly, santé24 has set up a hotline for parents. Rahel finds the parent hotline under "Important numbers". She is relieved to discover this hotline where she can get advice whenever she needs it.
