The Tara & Pips app – a playful source of support
Medical appointments and hospital stays can often be a scary and worrying time for children and parents alike. Tara & Pips is an interactive audio app designed to help children and families through the process, offering children’s stories and play ideas in seven languages. Studies show that targeted preparation pitched at the appropriate level can reduce fears by half, because knowledge creates trust and strengthens resilience.
The stories were developed in conjunction with the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, the University of Zurich Center for Dental Medicine and Kinderärzte Schweiz (association of Swiss paediatricians). They were written in collaboration with doctors and affected families.
Overview of the app
- Children’s stories on topics such as hospitals, dentists, paediatricians, media literacy, jealousy, bedwetting, adventures, leisure activities, etc.
- 20 medical stories and dream journeys (meditations for children)
- 35 fantasy stories
- For children aged 4 to 9
- Multilingual: Swiss German, German, English, French, Italian, Spanish and Albanian
