Optimum protection for your child

The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) publishes the Swiss Vaccination Plan at the beginning of each year. It lists all the recommended vaccinations for infants, children and adults of all ages. The objective of the vaccination plan is to provide the best possible protection for the population as a whole.

Vaccinations for children

When you have your child vaccinated, you don’t just protect it against infectious diseases, you also ensure that pathogens are not passed on to others. This helps prevent diseases from spreading. One beneficial side effect is that people who cannot be vaccinated against infectious diseases (e.g. individuals with a compromised immune system following cancer treatment) are also protected.

Do you have questions about vaccinations for children? Do not hesitate to call the santé24 helpline for children's vaccinations. Every Wednesday afternoon between 12:30 and 14:30 you can put any questions you may have around this topic to a paediatrician. If you would like to take advantage of this service – which is only available in German – you can arrange an appointment.

The electronic vaccination card

The FOPH also provides the extremely helpful electronic vaccination card which shows the vaccinations that are useful and necessary for a child. It also shows which vaccinations a child has already received. By doing so it helps prevent duplicate or unnecessary vaccinations. You can also set up an email or text reminder function so that no booster shots are missed. Use of the platform is free of charge. If, however, you do not wish to enter all the vaccination data yourself, a specialist can do it for you. The associated costs are low.
