Complementary medicine and SWICA: more than 100 ways to improve your health

Whether you use conventional or complementary medicine, you know best what's good for your body. We've got your back – even where basic insurance reaches its limits. So you can choose the therapy that works for you, without worrying about the cost.

Product highlights

  • You can freely choose from over 100 recognised therapy methods
  • You go to therapists you trust: SWICA fully recognises complementary medicine providers
  • Coverage of homeopathic, phytotherapeutic and anthroposophic preparations

What does basic insurance cover for complementary medicine?

Basic insurance only covers five recognised therapy methods, provided that you are treated by a doctor.

These are:

  • anthroposophic medicine
  • acupuncture
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
  • homeopathy
  • phytotherapy

Treatments with independent therapists or other specialists are notcovered by basic insurance.

You are always responsible for paying the excess and the deductible yourself. This means there are significant gaps in your cover. Our supplementary insurance covers these and opens the way to more than 100 other therapy methods.

How Completa Top or Forte with Optima complement each other

You decide how much cover you want for your own health: With Completa Top, you extend your foundation. Completa Forte offers you even higher benefits and we make additional contributions to your healthcare.

If you opt for Optima in addition, you enjoy maximum freedom: we cover the full costs of approved therapy methods.

Please note: Optima is subject to a excess for complementary medicine benefits, which is applied analogously to the excess for basic insurance. This means that if you have not fully used up your excess from your mandatory basic insurance (KVG) at the time of treatment, you must bear the remaining costs yourself up to the amount of the outstanding excess. Amounts already paid will be taken into account.
