Save money with SWICA’s basic insurance

SWICA offers alternative basic insurance models throughout Switzerland. Depending on your canton and region, you can benefit from attractive premium discounts. You'll find information on the six SWICA Favorit models under basic insurance.

Under the Federal Act on Accident Insurance Act (UVG), anyone who is employed at least eight hours a week by the same employer is automatically insured by that employer for occupational and other accidents. By excluding accident cover from your mandatory health insurance in Switzerland, you can save 7% on your basic insurance premiums. If this does not apply to you, accident cover must be included in your health insurance.

With SWICA’s basic insurance, you receive family discounts for children and young adults.

• Children: SWICA gives you a 76% discount on premiums for basic insurance (adult premium) for the 1st and 2nd child, and 90% for all subsequent children.
• Young adults aged 19 – 25: 25% discount on premiums for basic insurance (adult premium) at SWICA.

Are you doing extended military service? Then you're entitled to a lower premium. If you do more than two months (at least 60 consecutive days) of military service (basic training or subsequent service), you can claim a reduced premium on your basic insurance with SWICA. You can submit the confirmation to SWICA before or after your military service. The premium for your basic insurance is completely suspended for this period, or refunded if you submit your claim after your military service. The Swiss cantons offer you a lower premium for basic insurance if you are on a limited income. This financial support is handled differently from canton to canton. If you have a low income, SWICA recommends that you check whether you are entitled to a reduction. Please contact the relevant information office in your canton of residence directly.
