Help your employees get through the flu and cold season healthily and productively. With SWICA’s comprehensive range of services, companies can actively promote flu prevention and strengthen their employees’ immune systems in the long term.
A brief guide to flu prevention and immunity boosting
SWICA follows the recommendations of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and advocates flu vaccinations for individuals at risk and those in direct contact with them. Working with experienced network partners, we offer two flexible options for implementation:
Both models offer good value for money, and facilitate simple, needs-based implementation that is tailored to the company’s situation.
The ideal time for vaccination: from mid-October to early December. Since influenza viruses mutate, an annual booster is required in order to have the best possible protection.
With the preventive immunity package containing vitamin D and zinc, you can help your employees boost their defences in a targeted, simple and straightforward manner using a voucher that can be redeemed at selected pharmacies throughout Switzerland.
The winter months in particular place considerable demands on the immune system. Getting less sunlight can reduce vitamin D levels at a time when the risks of catching a cold or other infections are higher. Vitamin D and zinc are important for the normal functioning of the immune system, and support the body in times of increased stress.
The webinar teaches employees how lifestyle, stress and behaviour influence their body’s defences, and what measures are best to boost their health. The subsequent follow-up text messages help reinforce the knowledge in employees’ daily lives.

Flu is more than just a harmless cold. Symptoms such as coughing, a sore throat, pain when swallowing, headaches, joint pain, a runny nose and a high fever are unpleasant, and can lead to serious complications as well as taking sufferers out of action for extended periods. That is why the FOPH advises the public to get vaccinated against flu towards the start of the vaccination campaign, which kicks off in mid-October.
If employees are absent due to flu for between seven and ten days, this can cost companies between 800 and 1'700 francs per person depending on the sector (source: BFS).This amount includes continuing to pay wages and also replacing staff at short notice in order to meet deadlines and fulfil contracts. In extreme cases, a one-week absence due to flu can quickly run up several thousands of francs in costs.
Studies have shown that around 10% of employees fall ill with the flu during a typical flu season – at an economic cost to Switzerland of 300 million francs a year.
