Sleep problems (e.g. problems falling asleep, sleeping through the night, or waking too early) which persist over a long period can have serious consequences. There are correlations with diabetes, chronic pain, depression and cardiovascular disease. There may also be an increased risk of accident. In the short term, an individual‘s wellbeing, performance capacity and ability to concentrate may also be affected.
People who are plagued by sleep problems night after night can do something about it. Non-pharmacological therapies can have a positive impact on sleep behaviour.

Try to remain calm despite occasional sleep problems. Tips for getting a good night‘s sleep

Reduce the amount of time spent in bed and keep regular sleeping hours in order to build up natural sleep pressure

Do not sleep for long periods during the day

Lower your anxiety level by putting your alarm clock out of sight

Get up if you experience a long period of wakefulness

Keep active during the day and take some exercise in the fresh air and daylight

Develop a relaxation ritual which helps you gradually relax in the evening

Avoid coffee, black tea, fruit juice and other stimulating drinks before you go to bed

Do not consume stimulating online media content on your smartphone or computer before you go to bed

“mementor somnium” online coaching programme

The “mementor somnium” online coaching programme was developed in collaboration with the University of Zurich and helps individuals achieve better sleep quality in six stages through cognitive behavioural therapy. The first module, which is free of charge, provides an overview of the programme and a scientifically validated questionnaire to identify the type of sleep disorder. With the subsequent modules, which are subject to charge, users can launch the programme in line with their personal recommendation.
