Stress-free festivities

Stress-free festivities

Cosy Christmas with your loved ones sounds great, doesn’t it? But for many people, the festive season can be more stressful than relaxing. Here we offer a few tips on how to stay calm, cheerful and stress-free over the coming festivities.
It’s the same every year: we’ve been looking forward to a cosy time together over Christmas, but it’s not long before everyone’s tense and stressed. If you want to keep it stress-free, there are certain pitfalls you can avoid.

Disappointed expectations

We often have great expectations of Christmas. We look forward to a happy family get-together with a perfect meal, great gifts and a cosy atmosphere. But things often don’t turn out quite the way we’d hoped. The main secret to not being disappointed is not to let yourself be put under pressure. Enjoy the occasion as it unfolds.

Share out the work

Don’t try and plan and prepare the whole thing on your own. Involve your family and delegate tasks. Naturally not everything will go exactly as you planned, but that doesn’t matter – it’s okay if little things go wrong. Enjoy preparing for Christmas together, and see this as part of getting in the mood for a relaxed celebration together.

Innovate at Christmas

Traditions can be great, but don’t feel obliged to do everything just because that’s the way you’ve always done it. Talk to your family about everyone’s likes and dislikes, and don’t be afraid to break with old rituals. Find new traditions together and celebrate in the way that’s best for you.

Don’t overdo the presents

Gifts are often the highlight of Christmas, and kids especially look forward to getting lots of them. But if they get too many presents, children (particularly younger ones) can feel overwhelmed and won’t keep track of what they’ve been given. Don’t let Christmas turn into a consumer frenzy, and remember that it’s often quality rather than quantity that counts. Give personal gifts that really mean something to your loved ones, and delight in their joy when they receive them.

Take time out for yourself

It’s important to find time for yourself, also at Christmas. Plan to take time out during the festivities. Have a soothing bath, or recharge your batteries at the sauna. Going out in the fresh air and enjoying a walk in winter nature will also have you feeling relaxed and invigorated.
