Homemade facial masks

Winter is almost over, which is good news for anyone with dry skin. Cleansing and refreshing facial masks can help the skin regenerate fully.
Facial masks provide skin with the moisture it needs and help both men and women to relax. However, the finished products available at pharmacies are often expensive and contain preservatives. You may therefore consider making your own facial mask, as a less costly alternative. The following three masks are easy to make and do wonders for your skin:

Cleansing facial mask

Ingredients: Healing earth or clay, rose water, almond oil
Application: 10 to 15 minutes
Procedure: Stir three tablespoons of healing earth or clay with rose water and add one teaspoon of almond oil.

Refreshing facial mask

Ingredients: Quark, honey, lemon, avocado oil
Application: 10 to 15 minutes
Procedure: Mix two tablespoons of quark and one tablespoon of liquid honey with the juice of half a lemon; if you have dry skin, you can add a teaspoon of avocado oil.

Anti-wrinkle facial mask

Ingredients: Carrot, olive or almond oil
Application: 15 to 20 minutes
Procedure: Very finely grate one large carrot. Mix in one teaspoon of olive or almond oil and stir until the mass is completely compounded. Refrigerate it for one to two hours before applying.

To get the optimum effect, consider the following:

  • Scrub the skin thoroughly before applying the mask. This removes any dead skin cells and opens up the pores.
  • A reasonably hot facial steam bath is also recommended as preparation.
  • The area around the eyes must always be avoided when applying the mask. Avoid the throat area when using a mask that dries while on the skin.
  • The application time varies depending on the type of mask and may last from five minutes to one hour. During this time, you can relax and do nothing.
  • After removing the mask, wash the face with warm water. You can then apply some a facial tonic or skin cream.
